Postdoc in Chemical Recycling of Textiles
- Esbjerg, Syddanmark
- Permanent
- Fuldtid
This Postdoctoral position is part of the STREP project, coordinated by Aalborg University and funded by the EU's Horizon Europe program. The project aims to improve fiber-to-fiber textile recycling across Europe by developing smarter sorting systems, recycling-friendly design guidelines, and advanced recycling technologies. It brings together 13 partners from 8 countries to increase recycling rates and promote circularity in the textile sector.
The Postdoc will be engaged in experimental and analytical work focused on the recycling of textiles through thermochemical and solvent-based processes. A central part of the role involves operating both pyrolysis and solvolysis reactors, as well as conducting experiments using supercritical carbon dioxide. The researcher will be responsible for planning and executing experimental campaigns, including the preparation of textile-based feedstocks, monitoring process conditions, and collecting and interpreting data.
The position also includes performing chemical analyses and characterizations of both feedstocks and reaction products, using appropriate analytical techniques. Based on the experimental findings, the researcher will contribute to identifying cost-efficient recycling approaches for waste textiles.
In addition to laboratory work, the researcher will be expected to document and disseminate research results through written reports, publications, and presentations. Active participation in project meetings and collaborative discussions is also an integral part of the role, as the position is embedded in a larger interdisciplinary research project.Your competencies
The ideal candidate will have
- A master's degree in chemical engineering and PhD in a related field
- Hands-on experience in thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis or solvolysis
- Excellent skills in planning and executing experimental campaigns, including feedstock preparation, process monitoring, and data collection.
- A solid background in chemical analysis and material characterization is required, with proficiency in techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and thermal analysis.
- Experience within supercritical CO₂ is considered an advantage
