Join Denmark's leading innovation institute and help accelerate the green transition through cutting-edge neutron and synchrotron analysis. Contribute to making advanced materials characterisation accessible to industry while supporting CO₂-neutral steel production in a groundbreaking European research project.Your role and responsibilities
The Danish Technological Institute (DTI) is an attractive partner for industry, offering cutting-edge commercial services to companies at the forefront of innovation, particularly in materials science. DTI plays a unique role in developing and applying advanced characterisation tools utilising neutron and synchrotron x-ray techniques across industrial sectors such as energy, pharma and security/defence.We are seeking a new colleague to strengthen our services within advanced materials characterisation, particularly leveraging neutron and synchrotron measurement techniques. You will join a team of 10 highly specialised professionals dedicated to making state-of-the-art characterisation techniques accessible to industry. You will become engaged in both R&D projects and work directly with customers to clarify their needs, identify and develop tailored characterisation solutions, and play a direct role in measurement campaigns, data analysis, and interpretation of results from large-scale analytical facilities. Initially, you will focus on measuring residual stresses in metallic materials for industrial customers and participating in the European project , which aims to develop and refine processes which will drastically reduce CO₂-emission from steel production from the current level of 8% of the total global emissions. Your role will be to provide insight into the industrial processes through advanced neutron and x-ray characterization.Your primary responsibilities will include making advanced neutron and synchrotron analysis accessible and valuable for industrial clients by:
  • Defining and participating in neutron and synchrotron x-ray measurements in collaboration with colleagues and experts from academia and large-scale research facilities.
  • Managing our role in innovation projects (such as ZEROSTEEL).
  • Planning and executing client projects in close cooperation with industry partners.
  • Presenting and reporting results to companies through presentations and written reports.
  • Contributing to new R&D applications for public funding sources.
  • Developing and communicating case studies that demonstrate the value created by applying advanced characterisation techniques.
What we offer
You will become part of a dynamic team working at the forefront of materials characterisation technology. This permanent position offers excellent opportunities for professional development within advanced scientific techniques and commercial applications. You will have the chance to work with cutting-edge technology whilst making a direct impact on industrial innovation and concrete societal challenges such as the green transition. This position is based at our Aarhus office. For the right candidate, it would be possible to work from our Taastrup location, but this requires flexibility as most collaborative work takes place in Aarhus, where you should be physically present at least two days per week. You should expect up to 20 days of travel per year for events and measurement campaigns, which are planned and delegated within the team.Commercial drive and strong technical background
You hold a technical degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field) and preferably have a few years of professional experience. In addition, you have:
  • Experimental experience with neutron and/or x-ray techniques; experience with in situ/operando measurements is an advantage.
  • Broad insight into metallic materials, their structure, and their function.
  • A keen interest in business-oriented work with industrial clients.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Danish, written and spoken.
You are innovative, results-oriented, a strong networker, and passionate about making an impact. You thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment and enjoy developing and coordinating work with experts and clients from industry. You are good at working independently and managing your own time and can present complex technical topics with confidence and clarity. Project management experience is also an advantage. If you are excited about bridging advanced science and industrial impact and want to help accelerate the green transition through innovative materials characterisation, we encourage you to apply. You will become a part of the Danish Technological Institute
DTI is an independent, non-profit institute working to develop and support Danish industry and contribute positively to society. One of our main goals is to attract, develop, and retain the competencies that make us Denmark's leading innovation institute. We translate our knowledge and solutions into specific services that create value for the companies we work with.Contact
